Samuditha Samaratunga was adjudged the WINNER at both Humorous Speech Contest and Speech Evaluation Contest and Lahiru Premadasa was adjudged the 2nd Runner Up at the Humorous Speech Contest conducted by the Division C of Toastmasters International - District 82, held at the Centre for Banking Studies of Central Bank, Rajagiriya.
Our team member, Rangana Herath became the first left-arm spinner to take 400 wickets in Test Cricket.
Sampath Bank Athletic Team emerged overall 03rd Place at the 34th Mercantile Athletic Championship held on 20th, 21st & 22nd October 2017 at Mahinda Rajapaksha Stadium, Diyagama. The Team won 19 Gold Medals, 25 Silver Medals & 19 Bronze Medals and scored 224 points competing with 53 participant Companies.
Sampath Bank Chess Team emerged as the CHAMPIONS at the 06th Mercantile and Government Services International Rated Chess Championship – 2017, which was organized by the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka.
Sampath Bank Badminton Team emerged "Third Place" (Plate Division) at the Mercantile Inter Firm Team Doubles Badminton Championship 2017 which was organized by the Mercantile Badminton Association.
The Colors Nite 2017, organized by the Sampath Bank Sports Club, was held on 21.04.2017 at Kingsbury Hotel in recognition of the sports personnel for their performance during the year 2016.
Lakshan Fernando, a member of Team Sampath represented Sri Lanka Deaf Cricket team (vice captain), at the 3rd Asia Deaf Cricket Cup 2017 at Hyderabad, India.
The team emerged as runners-up in the tournament.
Team member of Sampath Bank, Chamath Danawansa was selected as an “ALL STAR PLAYER" at the recently concluded 51st Senior National Basketball Championship.
He represented the Colombo District Basketball Team and emerged 1st Runner-up at the tournament.
Sampath Bank emerged "Runners-up" at the "Bankers Debate - 2016" conducted by the Association of Professional Bankers.
The team was comprised of Nalin Basnayake and Lahiru Goonetilleke.
Sampath Bank became 2nd runner-up in following categories in the Mercantile Netball League Tournament 2016, held on 15th & 16th October 2016 at Thurstan College Grounds.

Sampath Bank Athletes showcased their talents at the 33rd Mercantile Athletic Championship held on 19th,20th and 21st August at Mahinda Rajapaksha Stadium, Diyagama.
Our own team member Rangana Herath became the Third Sri Lankan Cricketer to take 300 test wickets in the history of Sri Lankan cricket. He has reached above during the recent Sri Lankan Cricket tour of England. Further, following members of team Sampath added color and glamour to Sri Lankan Cricket by performing outstanding level of cricket in the said tour.
- Dasun Shanaka , became the third Sri Lankan cricketer to take 05 wickets in debut ODI, where our team member Charitha Buddhika holds the record of the second Sri Lankan cricketer to take 05 wickets in debut ODI.
- Kaushal Silva was adjudged as the “Man of the Series – Sri Lanka” of this Test Series against England.
Ms Nadi B Dharmasiri, Head of Marketing Sampath Bank PLC was awarded the “50 Asia's Women Leaders Award " at the 7th CMO Asia & World Brand Congress held at Pan Pacific, Marina Square, Singapore on 04th August 2016. Ms Dharmasiri received the captioned award in recognition of her knowledge, skills and the demonstrated leadership in the sphere of marketing management.
Sri Lankan veteran left-arm spinner and our team member Rangana Herath has taken a hat-trick in the second test match against Australia, played in Galle , which ended with the second consecutive win. Rangana became the 42nd hat-trick taker in Test cricket and just the second Sri Lankan after Nuwan Zoysa’s hat-trick in 1999 against Zimbabwe.
Sampath Bank Hockey Team emerged as "RUNNER-UP" at the recently concluded Mercantile "A" Division League Hockey Tournament, conducted by the Mercantile Hockey Association of Sri Lanka.
Sampath Bank won “Mercantile 3 on 3” title at the “3 x 3 Platinum Men’s Basketball championship” conducted at the Henry Pedris courts by Mercantile Services Basketball Association.
Sampath Bank athletes had been victorious at the 36th National Masters Athletic Championship 2016 representing Mercantile Athletics Team of Sri Lanka, which was held from 10th to 13th March 2016 at Lucknow, India.
Mr. Amila Wijekoon, a member of Team Sampath captained the Sri Lanka Merchantile Athletic Team participated for the above event.
