Some of our victories in product innovation could be listed as follows-
In 1987 we revolutionised banking accessibility for all our customers by being the first bank in Sri Lanka to operate a multi-point network of automated teller machines, then named SET (Sampath Electronic Teller) as well as making 1600 ATMs available island wide. Furthermore real-time e-remittance services and the Sampath ‘Easy Cheque Deposit' (ECD) system was also made available, enabling customers to deposit cheques 24/7 at any ATM without the hassle of filling forms. We also introduced the Uni-Banking system to construct a local and global village in banking terms.
In 2011 we bridged yet another gap between customers and their bank by opening a record 35 branches. This also enabled us to have a vibrant branch network island-wide. We also became the first bank to open 10 branches in one day in 2011.
Sampath Bank was lauded yet again this year by being honored as the Best Banking Group in Sri Lanka at the World Finance Awards. Launched in 2007, the World Finance Awards recognises industry leaders in different sectors based on nominations and votes from its readership.
Being the first in many things we have also been the first to take better care of shareholders by forming the first shareholder relations committee and also by hosting interactive shareholder forums.
